This scene is just one of those scenes I have on my drive home along the coast from surfing the North Shore. I hike these mountains alot, but was never struck more by its beauty than when I came Around the Bend into the sun blazing through the valley. Sparkling like jewels the Koolau cliffs stood before me like an enchanting fortress of the Menehuenes, (a legendary small peoples who inhabited here before Man). I was overwhelmed by both the mythical, and Religious, beauty of the place as when I was hiking up there once after a 6 hr dangerous climb and kept hearing little children playing. I now realize it must have been an unseen stream...wasn't it!? This is for the mystical in us all.

I love and live for the Ocean. Being in the water gives me comfort,the further removed from man made objects the closer I become to nature. Here, the whole of humanity is represented by a single lighthouse, and the string of birds flying home represents my urge to hang on to the bit of humanity in me I can connect with so I don't turn completely into a fish.

This is a roadside view I get every morning when I go surf the North Shore. Kamehameha bay drive winds along the entire bay up to the peak you see in the distance where it meets the rest of the Kings Hwy, which continues along the coast another 30 miles up to the big waves. It's my favorite drive in the whole world! [king Kamehameha, credited for being first ruler to unite (Defeat) all the islands - The "Hwy"(really a 2 lane road), circumvents the entire Island.]

Big Southern Hemisphere summer swells come rushing in, hit the back wall and explodes back out like a cannon shot! Not only does it sound like a cannon, the whole limestone shelf shakes like an earthquake. If you time it right, you can jump off the edge into the churning caldren. Young men and military bring girlfriends here to watch while they prove their bravery. People get in trouble here all the time. If the fall doesn't kill you the rough surf and razor sharp coral will. Even if you manage to get back on the rocks, you still have to climb back up the slippery cliff. This is painted on a deceptively small day so I could leave out all the whitewater.

At this moment the ocean acted like a giant lens, and the water glowed with sunset colors. In mixing with the white foam of the crashing waves, reminded me of those creamsicle popsicle bars from the Good-Humor man.

This peaceful scene is literally just steps off the road and what you see driving along Kaneohe bay drive. The road goes all the way up and around that mountain 30 miles to the North Shore,every foot of it just steps from the sand. At the base of that mountain is Kualoa Ranch and beach park, where tourists like to come and take photo's of China Mans Hat, a 12 acre island called Mokoli'i situated 200 yards off shore and resembling a Chinese hat.
