This is one of my most favorite paintings. As a dedicated sailor I've crossed the Pacific a few times, and one thing becomes very clear - there are only 3 things in your world. The magnificent sea,the enveloping sky,and your boat. They are 3 very distinct things.I tried to capture that feeling by keeping the 3 objects very separate (almost starkly so). Cover the water with your finger and imagine some sky colors in the sea,the painting would become bland and lose its"majesty". The sails were the most fun to do. At first I was going to put the transparency in the center, instead I put them on the edges to high lite, and add tension to them, also to fill them with wind. Doing this high lights the boats profile,cleans it up, and makes it look more sleek and elegant. Also adds a bit of character to the already Majestic Sea, enjoy.
