In 1514 the cream of Scotlands fighting men were virtually exterminated at Flodden Field. Scant months later youths from Hawick in the Scottish Borders fell upon and routed an English raiding party belonging to the Bishop of Hexham at Hornshole near Hawick, and relieved the English of the Bishop's standard.
