Tariq Rafiq was born in Kabul Afghanistan, but grew up and blossomed as an artist in the United States. Interested in drawing since childhood, he committed to art in his late teens, creating incredible imaginative sketches. Tariq attended a couple of art classes in high school, but he is primarily self taught. Tariq's art is essentially dominated by abstracted forms and figures. Over the years, Tariq has mastered a wide range of art techniques including pen and ink, pastels, watercolors, acrylic and oil. Tariq's many admirers have called his work "Original" and "Very Imaginative." Tariq has participated in many exhibitions. His work can be found in collections all over the world.
In my opinion the art has no boundaries, so I feel that I can let my imagination go free without setting any limits. By releasing my imagination, I can allow my brush to flow on the canvas and translate my dreams and emotions on to the canvas. Most of my paintings are created in my mind, before I even pick up a brush to start a painting. I strive to create paintings that are exciting, unique and vibrant. Vivid colors play a vital role in my work. My art has grown and blossomed over the years, because I am continuously changing my style and techniques. During my career as an artist, I have been influenced by masters such as Borofsky, Miro and Gorky. The popular saying states: "Less is more." But I believe tht "More is more." More color, movements, emotions and patterns. With all my paintings, I'm attempting to manipulate colors and complicated designs, in a manner that will challenge the eye and mind of my audiences. Creating stories through my paintings are one of my goals, without the obvious and clear meaning. I hope that the final story is created in the viewer's own mind.
